Daniel Quinn | Ishmael | Robert Bly | The Sibling Society | InternetI've been reading Robert Bly's The Sibling Society and at the same time wondering why Ishmael had such an impact on me ten years ago. It always amazes how you can hold a question in your mind and answers to those questions pop out at you from all different kinds of sources. Take this quote out of TSS about breaking up tribal societies for instance:

This guy issued a challenge to the internet - to read all of Ishmael (a few pages at a time) and post it onto youtube. He started out with the first pages and each person has posted the next few pages as a "reply" to the previous video. They've gotten up to p. 148 (how long is the book?).
The challenge is here:

And what story is Quinn enacting ? That of Guru of tribalism ?
Ever wonder why he seems to like having a following of adulating fans ?
Ever wonder why he twists anthropological data out of any semblance with reality ?
Ever wonder why he has nothing practicable to recommend, except for vaguely advocating that we let others starve in far off lands ?
Did you ever consider how many billions will have to die in order for the few remaining millions to subsist as neo-tribalists ?
But I forgot, murder is one those false "sins" of the crappy ten commandments.
