Changing minds: Step One

| | | | |

I wanted to share an abstract I wrote recently for the college as a resource for them when field the upcoming media requests as we are about to begin to advertise and press release. I hope my Ishpeeps can stand with me and help me see my vision even more clearly with some comments and constructive criticisms. Thank you!

More on Facing into the Anger

From comments and emails I’ve received, I am not alone as I witness an increase in anger in friends, family, and associates, especially when we try to talk about the seriousness of the climatic, economic, energy, and environmental predicament we’re collectively facing.  Some report it as markedly different in the wake of the last six months of calamitous economic unwinding. The inevitability of change is hitting home and people are not happy about it.

Food Production and Population Growth

| | | | | | |

Hey all,

So I just finished watching DQ's video series on food production and population growth again. I've owned it since it first came out. I'm still impressed by it. To me, it seems that what he had to say back in 1998 is even more important today.

List of ways to "change minds"

|

This is from Brett C an active member of Arkansas Ishmael

Haku,

Thank you for your ideas on ways to change minds. I've added your
suggestions to our list.

All, please let us know if any of you also have suggestions or reports
of efforts to put "ish-in-action."

-b

List of ways to "change minds":

1). Engage family, friends, acquaintances, etc., with the ideas
contained in Ishmeal; give/loan them copies of Ishmael (i.e. Ishmael's
Request to "teach 100").
2). Try to have an influence in your field (career, etc.).
3). Start/join a local Ishmael group.
4). Start/join a "tribal business."
5). Bookmarks: link to already designed bookmarks in links section of
Ark. Ish site, Ishmael cards saved in files section. Leave in books
at university and public library Ish-related books, or on college
bulliten boards, etc.
6). "Ishmael tables" -- simple folding tables set up on Earth Day and
other events to give out free copies of Ishmael, and to interact with
passers-by.
7). Post an ad in the local paper, such as:
"Earnest desire to save the World? Free copies of Daniel Quinn's
novel Ishmael available. Please submit request to
www.groups.yahoo.com/group/AIshmael."
8). Write letters to the editor of local papers, or call in radio
stations, documentary directors, politicians, etc., to get the word
out about Ishmael.
9). "Spiking"-- leaving cards/flyers/pamphlets/bumper stickers, etc.
about Ishmael or booklets of The New Renaissance in public places.
Writing "Read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, www.ishmael.org" in public
places.
10). Train public speakers/questioners/listeners.
11). Communication. Talk/listen to other groups/people, e.g. the
Sierra Club/environmental organizations, students, teachers, etc.
12). Join a book club and suggest reading Ishmael for group discussion.
13). Give or lend a copy of Ishmael/B, etc. to a local library or
prison, etc.
14). Networking: look for others on ishmael.org from your area or
under keywords such as "changed minds" and collaborate.
15). Make a youtube video or ish art (see links section).
16). If you are a student, do a paper, etc. on Ish related subject
and get the word out to the class and the professor/teacher.
17). Become a teacher or professor that teaches Ish and/or advances
the ideas of DQ in academics.
